Nelson County is Heaven on Earth. The pristine views, diverse forests and clean fresh water, so rarely found these days, remain plentiful here. When I discovered property in Horizon's Village it was an incredible opportunity to build a home, protected by the environmental sanctions that I hold dear. In this community, nature is deeply considered. I live by the creed that "All will be wanted, all will have a voice and all will be heard." For me, the Land has Rights. Here, those rights are valued. The songbirds can count on the forest still being here in the spring. The endangered brown trout can count on the water staying clean enough for them to thrive. The bear on our upper land can count on the forest not being clear cut around their den. We've sought out these environmental protections, have based our covenants on them and set aside 100 acres in perpetuity for nature to live undisturbed.
The thought of industry wanting to a clear cut a path thru our wilderness was never a consideration. Our covenants and property rights would keep all of that away. Or so we thought. It has been 20 months since Dominion has threatened Nelson County with eminent domain seizure. 20 months of defending the rights of our property, livelihood and lifestyle. 20 months of Dominion pushing everyday that you and your property have no rights. 20 months of every government official ignoring your letters asking for support and protection from these corporate giants that care nothing at all except to seize and clear cut your property to install a massive, polluting and volatile 42" pressurized gas pipeline that will carry fracked natural gas for export. They care nothing for the streams they will cross, the habitat that will be permanently lost, or the lives that will be bankrupt and so dramatically affected.
Our local government is in the fight to protect us, but the state offers no sanctions, no oversight, no reasonable planning and no consideration for the communities affected. Unbelievable they can so cavalierly ruin the Beauty of Virginia this way. They will not get my vote again and I'll be working for candidates with enough interest in the welfare of all the people and this land, to deserve a seat in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
