I was born in Charlottesville raised in Nelson. My mother’s family has been here for over six generations. I have grown up in the Rockfish valley for 45 years and I love the valley for its rolling green hills and bottom pasture land by the rivers and creeks. I also happen to love the valley for the diverse crowd that it so often brings.
I have seen enough residential and commercial growth, but all will be affected & none of which can compare to the physical/financial scare that could be left by the pipeline. We count on our customers being able to easily drive up for even the smallest item. But for two years or more, we may be looking at daily traffic jams unlike anything we have seen before! Too many unknown factors exist. My worst fear is that people will in a sense be robbed of their land and dreams, but continue to pay taxes on land that is being used by a corporation to turn a large profit. It does not seem fair.
If you have the landowner’s permission and you pay the taxes for their property and compensate them to their satisfaction, then they can put the pipeline in, Otherwise it is plain thievery. There is no justification for eminent domain here!
